Microsoft Connect 2009 Planning Discussions- Feedback Submission Process
[Msft Connect] Roberto
Dear program participants,

My name is Roberto and I'm part of the Microsoft Connect development team.
As we plan for our future releases for this year, we would like to reach out
to you at certain stages of our development process in order to get your
ideas and thoughts around particular areas of this Web site, and also to
validate ours with you.

In this occasion, I would like to start a conversation about what works and
what doesn't about the Connect's current feedback submission process. In
specific, I would like to hear your thoughts around both the forms used to
submit new feedback and the details page of that feedback once it is
submitted.

Let's try to keep this discussion limited to these specific couple areas, as
we will have the opportunity to cover other equally important topics is
separate threads.

So, based on our research and feedback from users like you, this is
something of what we have in mind:

- FEEDBACK SUBMISSION ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Display an acknowledgement upon feedback submission both as a confirmation
mechanism and a way to set time-to-respond expectations (each product group
at Microsoft may have different engagement capabilities). [Supporting
Feedback ID: 366406]

- RATINGS vs. VALIDATIONS

Make the feedback ranking mechanism less prone to confusion and more
straightforward. For example, get rid of validations and just stay with Star
Ratings. [Supporting Feedback ID: 367602; 329217]

- ATTACHMENTS VIEWABLE BY COMMUNITY

When you attach a file to a feedback item give you the option to make it
viewable not only by Microsoft but by the community as well. Same for file
attachments sent from Microsoft to the feedback item author. Also allow
removal of attached files. [Supporting Feedback ID: 388430; 416225; 387525;
388430]

- IMPROVE FEEDBACK DETAILS PAGE LAYOUT

Give more importance and make more discoverable the feedback title, author,
and status. Better differentiate comments from Microsoft/Author/Community
(maybe through color coding or icons). Bring workarounds to the details
page. Integrate all three potential discussions (author and Microsoft,
community, and validations) around a feedback item into a single
conversation.

What do you think?
What else would you like to see happen with these pages?

Thanks!
-Roberto
